How much do a funeral and cremation typically cost?

National median costs in the NFDA’s 2023 study were $8,300 for a funeral with viewing and burial and $6,280 for a funeral with viewing and cremation. These are medians, rather than averages, and are not current local quotes.

The cremation figure includes a viewing and funeral service; direct cremation without those services generally costs less. Cemetery plots, monuments or markers and cash advance charges are excluded; the burial figure also excludes a vault. Actual costs vary by provider and arrangements.
